Rationale for Collaborative Project to Create a Class Wiki Blog
The collaborative task to compose short stories, share them on a class blog and provide feedback on other student narratives is designed to address Education NSW English outcome EN3-CWT-01: plans, creates and revises written texts for multiple purposes and audiences through selection of text features, sentence-level grammar, punctuation and word-level language (NESA, 2026a). This outcome requires students to create texts for imaginative purposes, plan and revise their text, use text features for multiple purposes and experiment with sentence structure, punctuation and grammar (NESA, 2026b).
Digital technologies are ideal for collaborative tasks such as creating short stories for a class blog because they allow students to “become immediate practitioners” as soon as they begin to plan and draft their stories (Smith and Macgregor, 1992, p. 1.). The task also allows them to view and comment on stories of their peers in real time that is not possible without digital technologies. Students who are absent from the classroom are also able to fully participate in the task alongside their peers that contributes to equitable learning opportunities not available before digital technologies because they ensure “flexibility, accessibility and equity to all learners” (Srivastava, 2025, p. 398).
